Kitambaa Designs is proud to
offer to our customers hand-made and hand-painted buttons which
come to us from Johannesburg, South Africa. These gorgeous
buttons are made using a unique mix of ceramic and stoneware
clay, first developed by Jennifer Pascall on her kitchen table
back in the 1980’s. She then trained women from the local
community until they too were skilled in this craft. Now
these women are part of a community of artisans, empowered in
their ability to make these internationally acclaimed buttons,
each a tiny work of art. The buttons themselves are fired
at exceptionally high temperatures, which results in them being
so strong and durable that they can be machine-washed and
dry-cleaned. Perfect for incorporating into quilting, sewing,
knitting or other craft projects.
